About Us

We are the Kappel family-Rusty, Sheila, Amber and Brandon. We started our business, The Preparedness Store & Bosch Kitchen Center, in 1996 after we moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho from Tucson, Arizona.  We have always been interested in being self-reliant and have taken every opportunity through the years to learn all we could.  Eventually, Rusty started teaching classes and even ran a small home-based business in Arizona.  We felt Idaho Falls would be a better place to raise our children and loved the atmosphere of the area, so we moved here with the hopes of opening a retail store. Fifteen years later, thanks to the support of the community and those who travel to visit our store, we are still able to help, provide and teach others about emergency preparedness, whole grain cooking, self-reliance and much more.  We love being able to help others and see their excitement.

Our goal and commitment is to provide top quality products at the most affordable price, and offer fast, helpful and personal service which we feel we can do by keeping this a small, family owned business.
